Roger’s Nothofagus antarcticus is a native of southern South America (S Argentina and Chile).  The genus is especially interesting because it is one of the major ones that helped underpin the concept of Gondwana and continental drift.  There are Nothofagus species in S. America, New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia and New Guinea.  This species is relatively uncommon in its native habitat.  It is deciduous, producing bright green new leaves in spring, which by autumn turn yellows, reds and oranges.  It grows well with bonsai treatment
